Survive & Thrive & Drive

In this edition of The Roundup we share a bit on Nylacron® Drive Wheels.

Acorn® recently got a call from a lumber-processing mill, for which we produced fleet of Nylacron® Drive Wheels roughly 15 years ago – they called not because what we made them had aged out but because they wanted Acorn® to produce more of the same for another assembly line, since they have been serving so well for so long. We are of course happy to oblige and gratified in being able to provide such a strong and enduring solution for a long-time partner.

Drive wheels feature a keyway that gets mobilized by an inserted key during turning. Employing our Nylacron® is a great problem solver for this project, where employing a polyurethane in such a drive wheel application can often be susceptible to delamination over time, causing premature wear and necessitating replacement much sooner. While bringing Nylacron® to a drive wheel project is not without important challenges and questions, pertaining to friction coefficient, speed, and load requirements – so communication and collaboration with our partner has been key to our mutual success with this continuing project. Pun intended.

Nylacron® machined at our Acorn® factory in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania from 100% American-made, ultrasound-tested nylon.
