BEGINNINGS

Robert Alcide Lombard set out to control his family’s own destiny in 1957. Born in 1925 and drafted into the US Navy in 1943, he graduated from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in 1947. In 1957, while he was working for Atlantic Steel Products, Acorn® Industrial Products was acquired for distributing metal working power tools. Bob embraced the importance of hands-on demonstration, collaboration as a sales tool, and engineering expertise.

After substantial growth in the first decade of business, Acorn® Industrial Products moved from Bala Cynwyd to Conshohocken, PA in 1970. Acorn incorporated in 1973. Bob’s daughter and current President, Margie Finley, entered the family business that same year. Later, in the 1980s, Acorn® acquired J.H. Baker,
to expand industrial distribution of casters & wheels.
Acorn® Industrial Products expanded over the next
two decades. In 2000, an opportunity arose to move
the entire operation to home of the 2nd largest shopping mall in America, King of Prussia, PA. 520 Hertzog Blvd became Acorn®’s corporate headquarters. Acorn® established in-house manufacturing.
