"Goldilocks" Wheels That Are Just Right – Nylacron & Steel V-Groove

Today, as promised, we are featuring a custom solution we've been outfitting for an aerospace partner for over a decade.

We're talking about transporting extremely heavy tooling throughout a manufacturing facility while protecting indoor floor surfaces from damage. These loads also travel in and out of an industrial autoclave via standard V-groove track. Acorn® answered the challenge with a custom design featuring a solid steel V-groove wheel at the center, equipped with oversized high-temperature precision ball bearings, flanked by two Nylacron® SXHA wheels fitted with precision bearings and high-temperature grease for dependable operation under elevated-temperature autoclave and oven conditions, as well as swivel locks for limiting direction when required.

We've lovingly named these triple casters "Goldilocks"... Nylacron® SXHA turned out to be just right. Urethane was too soft. Steel was too hard on the floors... but Nylacron® SXHA delivered the ideal combination of load capacity, floor protection, and ergonomics. With rolling resistance of only about 1% of the total load, a 10,000 LB load can be moved with roughly 100 LB of push force. Acorn®'s design ensures each wheel material does exactly what it does best: the steel V-groove wheel rides only on the track, while the Nylacron® SXHA wheels protect the facility floor.
